Right to Information Act (RTI)

Government of India passed bill for Right to Information Act in 2005. This article will give you information about RTI ( Right to Information) act, application process and its fee. 

As per Right to Information act, person can request to Information commission to know about government activity. This information is provided by Public Information Officers (PIO). But there are some exclusions in information means RTI applicant cannot know all the information whatever wants. Such exclusions are given in official website.



Procedure to apply for RTI:
  • Person can do application using form 'K' or by writing on plain paper in local official language or English or Hindi. 
  • It is mandatory to specify particulars of information that what kind of information applicant wants to know. 
  • Application can be send by direct application by visiting PIO office or person can send by post also. 
  • There is some application fees which need to pay while applying. Fees detail is given below and also you can visit website to know more. Application fees can be paid by Indian postal order, Pay order, Revenue stamp, Cash, DD,  and by many other options.
Fees:
  • It is mentioned in act that application fee must be reasonable. Application fee is Rs. 20.
  • There is no fee for the people who are living below the poverty line.
  • If additional fee is required, then it must be informed in writing with calculation details of fee figure to applicant.

There are different PIO (Public Information Officers) as per different government departments. Different PIO list is given in website. So applicant needs to file RTI with appropriate department only. 

How much time taken to get information:
  • Applicant will get information within 30 days of application.
  • If applicant cannot receive application within 30 days or information is partial, then applicant can contact PIO. If application is related to life of person and Independence then within 48 hour.
